Mariki Stassen resides in George in the Southern Cape.  She is a studio potter and teaches pottery classes to private students of all levels of experience since 1990. She believes that each person has unique ability to be creative.

Her classes offer a place where students can relax and create, meet new people and make beautiful things. She enjoys both wheelwork and handwork and produces a wide range of individual, decorated functional ware, working in stoneware and porcelain.  She firmly believes that it was pressed on her heart to write scripture on clay.

She started to do calligraphy on wheel thrown porcelain, but now also engraves scripture on stoneware clay, accentuated by manganese and iron oxides. She recently started to engrave scripture on leather hard porcelain, which gives a more delicate product.  She has exhibitions twice yearly and works on orders the rest of the time.  Mariki lived in Israel for a couple of years and therefore the appreciation of Hebrew.  Most of the wall plaques, depicting the Old City, were born out of her love for Jerusalem.
